Ear Cleaning

Keeping a dogs’ ears clean is an important part of canine care.

Some dogs naturally have healthy, clean ears and may almost never need to have their ears cleaned, while other dogs require regular ear cleaning to prevent the buildup of dirt that can lead to ear infections.

We will always check the ears as part of the groom and clean accordingly. If the ears are red, inflamed, scabby , and he/she appears to be in pain, we will not clean the ears (as it can sometimes aggravate an infection) and advise you to contact your veterinarian. These symptoms could indicate an ear infection, fleas, ear mites or allergies and require medical attention.

Ear Plucking

Some dog breeds naturally grow hair inside their ears, such as Shih Tzus and Poodles.

Hair inside the ear can make it more difficult for your dog’s immune system to keep levels of yeast and bacteria at a manageable level, can block the flow of air that keeps the ear canal dry, and trap dirt, excess ear wax, and debris inside.

However like humans, dogs can have sensitivities, if plucking further aggravates your dogs ears let us know. A great alternative to ear plucking is shaving the inside of the dog’s ear flap and trim the outer hair on the surface of the ear canal. Keeping it short will at the least help prevent some hair from blocking the flow of air or getting tangled in any ear wax.

Kindly let us know your preference regarding.

Anal Glands

We do not offer the service of external or internal expression of the anal glands.

However we can kindly connect both services with the clinic upstairs in one visit.

Repeatedly, manually expressing isn't something that should be done on a regular basis, rather with the help of your veterinarian you should look at why the dog is needing the glands expressed so frequently. Main reasons for anal gland problems are diet (digestive problems or allergies), anatomy (location) and obesity. Therefore medical staff are best suited for this one.

 Clinic Appointments

Clients of Sydenham Veterinary Services, for your convenience your regular annual vaccination appointment can be made same day and same time as your grooming appointment. We are happy to accommodate both appointments all in one day, if your dogs health is good condition with no other concerns.

Please request when booking your grooming appointment, not the day of at drop off.

Flea Policy

We kindly ask that you do not book an appointment knowing your dog has any fleas.

WE DO NOT OFFER FLEA BATHS

Please devoid your dog of fleas at home.

If fleas are discovered after drop off a $30.00 CHARGE will apply to off set the time and cost to properly ensure our salon is flea free afterwards.

The dog will be treated with a topical Advantage treatment, cost is applied to your bill as well.

We highly recommend regular flea/tick prevention year round to avoid these pesky bugs.

OUR TEAM

Meet Crystal

Head Groomer - Salon Manager

Dog Groomer by passion and busy Mom 24/7, to two beautiful girls. Originally from Newfoundland. My husband Rob and I moved to Kingston in 2003. Shortly after having our first daughter, we found Sydenham and knew this was the place for us, we wanted our children to grow up in a small town like we did, it feels a little more like back home than the city. And we've been here ever since. Being a stay at home mom until my girls were in school full time made me think, when it was time to return to work, I wanted to return to something that I love and am passionate about each and every day. And that for me is animals. Dogs especially. So in 2012 I started pursuing my passion. I completed a course at St. Lawrence College, Introduction to Professional Dog Grooming. Then continued on to shadow, assist and learn from other groomers. Seminars (including Pet First Aid) and continued learning each and every day, here I am. Currently studying Animal Reiki (using energy and compassion for healing) I hope to apply and offer in the near future and I also have interest in Canine Esthetician, as I'm eager to learn more about skin care in dogs.I believe that every dog has a purpose, I would love the opportunity to be part of their journey with you.

MEET MEGAN

I joined Crystal at The Clip Joint in November of 2021 to assist Crystal as the business was steadily growing. I was born and raised in South Frontenac and have two wonderful children. After my second child realized I wanted to work locally in my home town and took on the role as bather. I have been steadily learning and growing as Crystal teaches me the ins and outs of grooming. I plan to continue my knowledge here and can't picture myself doing anything else. I spend most of my free time in the outdoors as well as being a Volunteer Firefighter out of Hartington.
